We understand that a musical duo becoming a label seems odd. We have tried to make this transition as easy as possible to understand. In fact, a lot of our fans may not even notice the transition.
The records on the Half an Orange music label, GWAVA BY HALF AN ORANGE, will be released in a variety of ways. We will use the song’s metadata, crediting, and album covers to clearly explain the different release types.
GWAVA BY HALF AN ORANGE will have 4 release types:
1 - Andrew Spellman Releases
2 - Michael (a.k.a before saudade) Releases
3 - Michael & Andrew Releases (a.k.a Original Duo) Releases
4 - Other Artist Releases
HOW TO TELL IF A SONG IS SIGNED TO GWAVA BY HALF AN ORANGE?
If you see the GWAVA BY HALF AN ORANGE logo (G) on the album cover then you will know it is signed to Andrew and Michael’s label GWAVA BY HALF AN ORANGE.
HOW TO TELL IF A SONG WAS MADE BY THE ORIGINAL HALF AN ORANGE DUO (BOTH ANDREW AND MICHAEL)?
There are two ways to tell if a song was made by Michael and Andrew together (a.k.a. the original Half an Orange duo).
The first is the easiest. If it says "Half an Orange" in the crediting but the song isn't released through the label GWAVA BY HALF AN ORANGE (look for the "G" on the album cover), then it's from the original duo and their legacy catalogue (before GWAVA existed).
If a record is released on GWAVA BY HALF AN ORANGE and credits both "before saudade" (Michael's solo project) and Andrew Spellman as a collaboration (i.e. Andrew Spellman x before saudade) then you will know this record is from the original Half an Orange duo working together.
HOW TO TELL IF A GWAVA SONG WAS NOT MADE BY ANDREW NOR MICHAEL?
If you see the GWAVA BY HALF AN ORANGE logo on the album cover (look for the G), then the song is signed to GWAVA BY HALF AN ORANGE. If it does not credit Andrew Spellman or before saudade (Michael's solo project) then neither Andrew or Michael were main contributors to the record.
WHO IS BEFORE SAUDADE?
If the song credits “sau dade” as the artist then you will know it’s released under Michael’s solo project, titled sau dade. Michael will be releasing a variety of songs on the label GWAVA BY HALF AN ORANGE
WHO IS ANDREW SPELLMAN?
If the song credits “Andrew Spellman” as the artist then you will know it’s released under Andrew’s solo project. Andrew will be releasing a variety of songs on the label GWAVA BY HALF AN ORANGE
HOW TO TELL IF A SONG IS CONTENT CREATOR FRIENDLY?
If the outline of the GWAVA BY HALF AN ORANGE logo is black and white, then it is creator friendly, meaning you can use the song on YouTube, Twitch, and social media as a content creator. If the outline of the GWAVA BY HALF AN ORANGE logo is a different color than black and white then the song is not creator friendly.
WHY DO SOME SONGS ON GWAVA BY HALF AN ORANGE LIST HALF AN ORANGE AS THE COLLABORATING ARTIST?
You may see some songs being credited as collaborations between the musician and "Half an Orange" to help said musician grow. For example, “Main Musician & Half an Orange”.
This decision to list Half an Orange in the song’s metadata and credits as the collaborator was made after getting feedback and input from musicians who are interested in releasing with us. This collaboration in the metadata gives the smaller musician our entire audience and platform to grow from. It is optional and not required for them.
Because Andrew and Michael will be curating and mentoring these records and artists, we believe the records will provide a similar joy and emotional journey to our original duo Half an Orange fans, while also introducing them to new voices and perspectives.
